how to Build the Avergage Cube?

I'm completely new to cube, and want to build a 360 card Peasant cube to draft with my kids and perhaps some other newer Magic players. My question is: Is it just a bad idea to look at the "Average Cube" list and mimic it? Does this create a completely non-cohesive playing experience, or will it actually be pretty good? To start out, I'd really like to build and play, without having to put in weeks of research to understand every card beforehand. Once we've played and understand most of the cards, then we can try to upgrade it later if necessary. Is this a faulty plan? Thanks to anyone who can take the time to offer their expertise!
