WU Merfolk 2 by MULRAH

I couldn't help but roll my eyes as this draft started because of course I see two of the best White cards--Spectral Procession and Cloudgoat Ranger--right off the bat. Despite wanting to explore Blue, I couldn't turn these cards down. Fortunately, some decent Merfolk cards started coming around, which implied White+Blue as the color pairing for this deck, and later on I was picking up absurd cards like Mulldrifter. Ultimately, this deck will probably come down to playing these bombs, but it's got other stuff going on. There's definitely some Merfolk synergy going on, and this deck will almost certainly be "going wide," though the power of that will be limited due to a lack of anthems or other tricks to take advantage of having so many creatures on the battlefield. White supplies some decent removal. Overall, it was a pretty interesting draft, with a strong tug toward a focused Monowhite Go Wide at the beginning. Since Blue was clearly open, spells that work best in Monoblue decks as well as Faeries (UB) seemed prevalent as the draft progressed, so these were probably also possibilities. Unlike other formats (Mirrodin), I tend not to find the bombs in this one to be oppressive. Although I might tone it down in the final build, I think they're an enjoyable part of the experience and are probably why these decks have resulted in such wild and fun games in the past.
